Partnerships with mineral pigment specialists — not synthetic color labs

Dalsberg works with mineral pigment specialists using natural oxides and earth pigments, not synthetic colorants designed for plastic paints.

These pigments reflect light differently.
Their wavelengths are irregular, complex, and alive — something the eye immediately recognizes.

This is why natural tones never look “flat” or artificial.
The eye is not fooled.

Synthetic pigments are engineered for consistency on plastic films.
Natural mineral pigments interact with the wood fibers themselves.

They:

• penetrate instead of coating

• react with the surface texture

• evolve subtly over time

We don’t reinvent wood.

Since 2024, Dalsberg is a Human-scale business specialising in natural, breathable paints for exterior wood.

We operate outside the conventional DIY and chemical paint sector.

Our work is based on a simple principle:

like us, wood is alive — stains, paints and other coatings must allow it to breathe and protect it, not seal it.

Rather than covering the wood with a synthetic film, Dalsberg develops finishes that penetrate the surface layers, protect and age naturally with the material, without flaking, as they allow moisture to escape.
